Now We Are Six

I love A A Milne. Winnie the Pooh is one of the sweetest collections of tales about growing up. Few people actually read his other works (or actually read Winnie the Pooh vice watching it in cartoon form). But my mom sent me the whole series that had once been mine. Anthony and I are reading, "Now We Are Six." It is a good way to start his 6th year.

I cannot believe that he is six. Everyone said that the time would pass quickly...and it has. Worse, it seems to be speeding up. Each day he seems to find a new independence. I am both proud and sad as I watch him grow into a young boy. It seemed so improbable given his start.

He was so frail in those first few months. Now he is anything but. He prides himself on being strong. His imagination makes smile. But he is also very grounded in reality reminding me that 'no mom, that is not real.' I love it!!! So, while I miss the small cuddly infant who needed me so. I also celebrate the boy he is becoming...strong, independent, compassionate, and adventurous.

Trying to get back

So I know, please don't judge. Things are crazy, but getting routine again now that school has started. And most important I have figured out how to make my big pics small enough to download on the page via a batch processing system. Sweet!!!

To catch everyone up.

Here is a family shot we took in Apr for William's 1st b-day. We went out to Avenue of Oaks...a very classic Savannah Place! I love this picture because my husband is actually smiling...this NEVER happens.


The boys have now started school. Anthony is in Kindergarten and Gabe is in Pre-K. They both go all day and get to ride the bus home. The funniest part is that as soon as William sees the bus round the corner, he is literally jumping from his seat. He really misses them all day long. These are from the 1st Day (Aug 3rd). Rob was even able to be here to take them and meet them when they got home. Nothing better!!!






Anthony also had a birthday. He is 6 now...which seems unimaginable! He is all boy too. We have a water ditch behind our house, and more often than not he is out there 'hunting' for animals to study. Currently we have a number of butterfly cocoons that are in a jar waiting to 'hatch'. I love how inquisitive he is about everything. He is totally into being just like dad...and that is fine by me. We did a family cake on the day of his birthday and had a party last weekend.

Graduation Day

Anthony is now officially a kindergartner. Isn't that awesome! He is so excited to go to BIG school. He tells me how smart he is and that he is DEFINITELY ready. And so am I. Don't get me wrong, I will miss the little dude...but I am happy for him. He is so big and independent these days. It is amazing to watch.


The boys had their end of year Splash Blash! Sprinklers, pools, shaving cream, water guns and some food. What could be better?

Then we had graduation day with lots of singing. By far though, the highlight was Gabe's friend Kaylee nearly strangling him because she 'just loves him so much' as they sang songs about Jesus' love. Classic!!!!

Never Enough

Do you ever wonder if it is ever enough? I think this all the time. Right now my kids are watching a movie so I can get just a minute of time without the "moooommmmmmyyyyyy" cry. And yes, I am having a beer at: in the afternoon while it is over 95 in MAY!!! But lately, I keep thinking that it just isn't enough.

We all have those friends. The one that no matter what you do they have a follow up question that implies it really wasn't enough.

Me: "I made bread today."
Friend: "Oh, did you grind your flour?"

Me: "Anthony is reading great lately. He has about 30 site words."
Friend: "Oh, is reading a book without pictures yet?"

Me: "We went to the art museum today."
Friend: "Oh, are you going to do the art camp."

No matter how well meaning, all you can think is gee thanks, now I am still behind the power curve.

So is it enough...probably not and most definitely. There is always more to do. A way to eat better, live better, save more, educate better, play better. But I hope I am doing enough that we manage to survive for a few more days until I need another movie afternoon to keep us functioning.

Mother's Day

Rob got a 4 day weekend and has been most helpful. He has completely redeemed himself from my birthday weekend. And I got a much needed break. It seems as I talk with each of my mom friends that the one thing we want for Mother's Day is a break from being a mom.

My celebration kicked off with a party at the school for the boys. I have to say that RHUMC does a great job for us. They have some of the most thoughtful gifts and most wonderful teachers. I will miss them next year. I received a beautiful placemat, a hand print poem and hand print flowers from the boys. I am a sucker for anything with the boy's hand or foot prints.

For most of the weekend, we all just hung out. On Saturday, we went shopping at Lowe's. On Sunday we went for brunch, then played at the park, then I got to shop alone for a bit, then we hung at the pool with banana daquaris. Today, I made Rob clean the garage. He would rather do any other task than clean the garage, but he made serious progress on it. Excellent.


But best of all, I am getting my iPhone 4 on Tuesday!!!!
